Schools Programme 2024

Calling all schools! We have a very full programme of activities for you. In fact, there are two programmes, one primary and one secondary.

The activities all come direct to the school, so they can be scheduled in to the class timetable. In addition, they’re all free. This is due to tremendous support from a whole range of sources – public bodies, institutions, companies.

The only restriction is simply in the limitations of time for the various visiting groups, which mean that the booking slots can easily fill up at an early stage. So we do recommend speedy booking to catch the opportunity.

Here’s the booking form:

In addition to the many activities visiting schools, there are also online sessions, which are also detailed here.

There’s a further bonus. When the public programme of the Festival comes online – we’re hoping at the end of May – if you see a particular event that you’d like your class to attend, let us know and we’ll see if we can find space. It depends, of course, on the size of the venue, but the larger venues usually have sufficient space. And if we can find space then this also would be free. Contact us at

One more thing – our online magazine Frontiers is a rich source of material for schools, as it covers not only science topics but also exploration and aspects of Orkney itself.

We look forward to hearing from you!
