The Particle Physics for Scottish Schools exhibition comes to Orkney for the first time in 2015. PP4SS is a huge exhibition with many interactive hands-on exhibits, graphic displays and presentations. You can find out how particle accelerators work, drive your own electron synchrotron and operate a CERN accelerator complex simulator. You will discover how to detect the particles produced in high-energy collisions and see live detection of cosmic rays in our cloud chamber, measure the lifetime of cosmic ray muons and much more. You can even be ‘knowingly zapped’ by these cosmic invaders in our cosmic ray doorway. Physicists from the University of Edinburgh will be showing you around. They will be on hand to answer your questions about the Maxwell, the Higgs boson and what we are still to discover.
PP4SS is in Orkney with the support of the Institute of Physics and the School of Physics and Astronomy of the University of Edinburgh.
