Music 2024

This year we have two concerts in St Magnus Cathedral. One of them looks at the music of the church organ, with organist George McPhee joined by the Mayfield Singers for works ranging from Sweelinck to Scheidemann, Buxtehude to Bach. George is a familiar figure for Festival audiences and marks his diamond jubilee at Paisley Abbey.

Nordic Viola make a welcome return, bringing with them the Faroese group Aldubáran in a concert of music by Faroese, Scottish and Irish composers, with video sequences and still images and a feeling of landscape and place.

Composer Stuart Macrae conducted some of his own works in the Sunday evening Cathedral concert  last year, themed around the Sun, and this year we’ll turn to the stars and enjoy his Ursa Minor on film, introduced from the perspectives of music and astronomy.
