Film 2024

Come with us on film to the island of Stroma, uninhabited since 1962, and the cliffs of the Caithness coast, and then across to Hoy – we look at the forces that made the Pentland Firth, with its richly varied cliffs and its powerful tides.

Music and film come together with astronomy with the Hebrides Ensemble playing Stuart Macrae’s Ursa Minor. We’ll hear two perspectives on the pieces, from the composer himself and from astronomer Anne-Marie Weijmans.

A film on seaweed shows it in many forms, with the voices of harvesters and the sound of the sea, and Skaill House makes an ideal setting.
