Competitions 2024

The Peedie Kirk lunches are a delight to look forward to, with a buffet of Orkney fare – cheese and meat, fish and baking – and the chance to meet old friends and new in a welcoming setting. The One O’Clock Toast each days features a well-known Orkney figure, and this year’s mix of people ranges from farming and local government to photography and drama.

Every evening there’s an event at 9 pm or thereabouts in the Orkney Club, a smaller venue where an audience can gather round and enjoy hearing talks that are sometimes in conversational format, and sometimes music as well, and with an opportunity to arrange refreshments.

The Orkney Club, situated on the Kirkwall harbour front, is an ideal setting for an evening looking back at the lives of one of Orkney’s best-known families, for reflections of life and work on the Orkney shore, and for an after-concert talk on the music of the church organ. Other events will include a journey to Slovenian lakes and mountains, a puzzles and pints evening, and songs of the land and the days of fruit-growing by some of the Lanarkshire Songwriters.
