AFTER ORCADIA

Islands at night
Hill fires pierce the darkness
Low hanging stars

Artist Rebecca Marr and archaeologist Mark Edmonds follow up their book Orcadia with further exploration in worlds and photographs of how land, sea and particularly stone shaped the lives of Neolithic Orcadians.

“Orcadia was the first time that the two of us had worked together. A long path circling around ideas about light, land and water, about monuments, memory and time. We wanted to come back to those exchanges, revisiting the images and using the text as a quarry from which to draw concise responses.”

The claw of winter
A field’s frayed hem unravels
The coast line redrawn

It’s at the Northlight Gallery, Stromness, from 2-15 September, Monday to Saturday, 11 am – 4 pm, and you can find out more about it on the project website.
