WORKSHOP: SHADOWS OF THE ANCIENT LAKE

September 10 → 2:30 pm4:00 pm

Stromness Museum

Explore the fossilised remains of Lake Orcadie’s ancient fish and follow clues from our local collection to piece together the once living creatures now embedded in the rocks. After a short look at some of the fish fossils on display, you will work together with artist Mary Grieve to help create a shoal of shadows. You will each design and build a shadow puppet fish to recreate the water world of Devonian times, in an era before life came ashore leading to reptiles, birds, mammals and us.

For age range 5 and over. Children under 16 to be accompanied by an adult.

Numbers limited to 6, booking essential: tickets £6 & £3. You can book direct through this LINK.

Tickets include entry to the Museum, so come along early to enjoy a look around and find inspiration in its very special collections.

There is also a workshop on the afternoon of Friday 8 September at Orkney Fossil and Heritage Centre, Burray.
