SONGS FROM THE HEART
The Mearns Singers are a community choir from the land between the Grampians and the east coast of Scotland, a landscape of rolling fertile farmland, with coastal villages with a fishing tradition. This is Lewis Grassic Gibbon territory, and one of their songs is based on Sunset Song, while others come from the sea, among them the Unst Boat Song and Partans in his Creel, and there are songs from other lands as well.
They are making a return visit to Orkney with their conductor Irene Watt.
The visit of the Mearns Singers has been assisted by NorthLink and much energetic fundraising through the winter months by the choir.
The Mearns Singers, conducted by Irene Watt, are also taking part in a workshop, Singing in Harmony, in the St Magnus Centre, Kirkwall, on Saturday 5 September, at 2 pm.
On their visit last year, they sang on the steps of St Magnus Cathedral.
