SONGS FROM THE HEART
The Mearns Singers are a community choir from the land between the Grampians and the east coast of Scotland, a landscape of rolling fertile farmland, with coastal villages with a fishing tradition. This is Lewis Grassic Gibbon territory, and one of their songs is based on Sunset Song, while others come from the sea, among them the Unst Boat Song and Partans in his Creel, and there are songs from other lands as well. They have come on a visit to Orkney, with their conductor Irene Watt, who will be speaking later today on the benefits of music for health and wellbeing.
The visit of the Mearns Singers is supported by Firstdrive Cars, Macphie, Rotech Subsea, Kettles of Dunkeld, the Rotary Club of Stonehaven, and Kincardine Rotary Club.
