Clear and concise insights from two speakers from the University of Central Lancashire, with time for refreshments in between. Charlotte Proverbs describes the physics of the solar wind that sweeps outwards to encounter the Earth’s magnetic field and form the Northern Lights. Dr Catherine Tennick will explain some of the physics of forensics, from fingerprints and footwear to fibres and fluids. The £10 ticket price includes a glass of the winning Festival cocktail from our competition.

You also have the opportunity to join a distillery tour afterwards, or a guided tasting session. Kirkjuvagr gin uses a mix of local plants for its flavour, among them angelica which grows wild but has been suggested to have been brought to Orkney by the Norse, who prized it highly for its sweetness. The botanical mix also includes local borage as well as bere, Orkney’s traditional six-rowed barley.
