NORDIC TUNES FOR ORKNEY JOURNEYS
Sit back and enjoy traditional music from Orkney and other parts of the north – from Norway, Faroe, Shetland, played by Lesley MacLeod (fiddle), Fran Gray (accordion) and Hamish Bayne (concertina), with Tom Ward (concertina and small pipes) making a welcome return to Orkney; and meet some of the northern guests taking part in the Festival.
Tom Muir will tell the story of the Sanday shipwreck whose origins have been discovered this year, in history and in a local account, and Terry Gunnell has a tale of a strange creature found on the sands of South Iceland.
There’s a Swedish Slangpolska and a Danish Hopsa; the Oslo Waltz and Life in the Finland Woods; a rousing Faroese tune and the hauntingly beautiful Morning Prayer from Iceland. From Shetland there’s Snowy Wind and Da Road to Houll, and Orkney tunes includes Fleet on the Tide and Mist over Graemsay.
