IMPOSSIBLE ENGINEERING?
St Magnus Centre, Palace Road, Kirkwall
Thistle Wind Partners (TWP), a new offshore wind developer, bring a piece of theatre to this year’s festival and invite you to come along for a play and live experiments about the greatest engineering adventure of our time.
TWP won two ScotWind leasing sites last year for the Ayre (Orkney) and Bowdun (Aberdeenshire) offshore wind farms. And the event they’re bringing is a play on an engineering theme starring three of Scotland’s most exciting theatrical and TV actors: Kit Laveri, Stuart Falconer and Stuart Fenwick.
Engineers of history, Archimedes and James Watt, challenge the Goddess of the Wind Zephyra to demonstrate that offshore wind engineering can really work! Can we achieve the next generation of floating turbines? Would the laws of physics break down if turbines got any bigger? How on Earth can a structure of such size actually float?
You can find out in this family show for children and adults alike, with lots of arguments, live experiments and a Q&A with TWP engineers after the 30-minute play.
There are three performances through today, at 10am, 12.30pm and 3pm.
Admission is free, and numbers are limited so booking is highly recommended – you can go direct through this LINK.
