September 5, 2025 → 7:30 pm ─ 8:30 pm
King Street Halls, Kirkwall
/ Tickets:£5 – £7/ Tickets:

The earliest stages of the story of the formation of galaxies have now been revealed in stunning detail by the James Webb Telescope. It’s taken the story all the way back to the first few hundred million years after the Big Bang itself. Dr Adam Carnall of Edinburgh University’s Institute for Astronomy shows images of stars and galaxies formed over 13 billion years ago and tells the story of their detection – and of more mysteries ahead.

This event is organised and hosted by the British Astronomical Association and will be followed by five more talks through the day tomorrow (Saturday). Tickets for the full group of talks and refreshments can be bought from the BAA direct. Alternatively individual talks are covered by the Festival LecturePass, or tickets can be purchased in advance through the Festival ticketing system [we will put in a link here].
