Greener Orkney, the Highlands & Islands Climate Hub, Orkney Renewable Energy Forum and Kirkwall East Church invite you to join them in viewing a new film on climate change and nature loss. People’s Emergency Briefing sets out the predictions from a range of experts and calls for government action. It’s vital, the filmmakers say, to lift the level of national discussion to the sharpness and directness used for every other recognised emergency, with an essential first step being a government-led televised national briefing.

The film developed out of presentations from a group of experts in various fields, brought together in Westminster Hall in November 2025 for an audience of more than 1,200 invited politicians and leaders from various sectors of society, and introduced by Chris Packham.

The film is generating much discussion, from the starkness of the science and the question of what action can be taken. It is 50 minutes in duration, after which there is an opportunity for discussion and also to find out about what is already being done in Orkney, including what you can be involved with.

One of the speakers in the film, Lt General Richard Nugee, will be in conversation tomorrow (Sunday) at 5.15 pm in A Case of National Security.
