ENERGY: THE BIG QUESTIONS
An Orkney Climate COP
What should Orkney do with its abundant energy – export it all to industries elsewhere or create some industries of its own? Will it electrify all its local vehicles and ferries? Or is methanol or ammonia or synthetic hydrocarbon the fuel of the future?
How can Orkney’s renewables produce cheaper electricity for local households and businesses? For offshore wind servicing, have we missed the boat? Could direct atmospheric or marine carbon capture, using local energy, be the industry of the future? How do we get the benefits of industry without further industrialising the landscape? Neil Kermode of EMEC and Dr Gareth Davies of Aquatera examine the options and put forward a list of proposals for you to assess.
The ticket for this event includes the opening of the climate day by Prof. Tim Lang at 9.45 am.
The Orkney Climate COP is supported by the Highlands & Islands Climate Hub.
