ARCHAEOLOGY IS RUBBISH

September 7 → 12:00 pm4:00 pm

Maeshowe Visitor Centre, Stenness

Ancient middens at sites like Skara Brae provide vital clues to archaeologists about the people who left the material behind. The process of deduction can be seen when looking through – (clean!) – modern rubbish, and noting clues that it provides to the people who dumped it.

Call in and try out your own powers of deduction, and learn about the importance of middens, and archaeological techniques, and the use of critical thinking and problem solving to think like an archaeologist.

Hosted by Historic Environment Scotland. Entry is free, with no booking required, and all ages are welcome. For more information, contact orkneyevents.vo@hes.scot.

The photo shows a part of the midden from the Links of Noltland excavation in Westray.
