ARCADIA PARK AFTERNOON

September 8 → 2:00 pm4:30 pm

Arcadia Park, Kirkwall

Not so long ago it was waste ground – now it is a park with trees, shrubs, wildflowers and wildlife. Come to see the extent of the transformation and hear the story from Paul Green who designed it and Bob Mackenzie who came up with the original idea.

You’ll see the results of all the community planting efforts and signs of natural soil restoration – and also developments which include a colourful display of wild flowers in a newly planted area, and the start of work on a Japanese viewing platform.

Enter from the small car park in Scapa Crescent.

The development of the park has been covered by a series of stories in The Orkney News. You can find out more in advance about creating a wildflower meadow of your own from this article in Frontiers magazine.

You can also hear the story of the park in this interview with Paul Green.
