AN ORKNEY PAST, AND ORKNEY’S FUTURE

September 10 → 9:00 pm10:00 pm

The Orkney Club, Harbour Street, Kirkwall

The Linklater family have long been entwined with Orkney and its culture. Eric Linklater wove islands and people into his books and his wife Marjorie gave staunch support to arts developments and campaigns for environment and heritage; and then in recent years their daughter Kristin returned home to establish the unique Voice Centre that brought people from many places.

The family’s love of Orkney was expressed too by her sister Alison, an artist, and her brother Andro, writer and journalist. Their brother Magnus, writer and former editor of the Scotsman, looks back at their lives, and at a time of global and local uncertainty looks ahead to the currents that may be shaping Orkney’s future, in conversation with Cameron Stout of BBC Radio Orkney.
