Pot ale and draff, traditional by-products of whisky production, are the raw material for a new generation of bio-industries, says Prof. Alan Wolstenholme of Heriot-Watt University. They can feed microalgae which capture carbon dioxide and produce new pharmaceuticals and foodstuffs. They can also utilise over-capacity energy from renewable sources. Over-18s only.
