CTR Wilson was the first Scot to win the Nobel Prize in Physics – for the invention of the cloud chamber which shows the paths of individual electrons and ions. The idea started from his observations of the Brocken Spectre at the summit of Ben Nevis. Dr Alex MacKinnon of Glasgow University tells the story.
